Denver Energy

November 11, 2011
See Saw just finished a web project for the Denver Energy Challenge—a city sponsored effort to connect the community to energy outreach, education, and assistance programs available in the City and County of Denver, in order to encourage and recognize energy saving actions.

We worked closely with The Geek Gene, a local Drupal development company, to help create this site. This is our first forray into Drupal, a robust but easy to use content management system. A huge shout out to Arthur at The Geek Gene for all of the guidance. You can take a look at the site at the Denver Energy Challenge website.

Greener Hosting.

July 12, 2011
Green Hosted Web siteWeb servers and data centers use a lot of energy. Servers are becoming more efficient of course, but still, on average, a server can have the same impact on the climate as a 15mpg truck...not good. Around 3-4 percent of electricity consumption goes to data centers. In line with our focus on sustainability in design, See Saw has switched to a green hosting company that uses it's local energy credits to buy wind energy. The company we use currently boasts an impact equivalent to:

• Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or
• Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or
• Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or
• Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year

First Steps.

June 10, 2011
Warren Village signFirst Step ParkSee Saw clients JHL Constructors recruited a great group of companies and people to help put together a new park for Warren Village, a program dedicated to helping low-income, single-parent families realize their full potential. From the Warren Village website:

"Warren Village helps motivated low-income, previously homeless single parent families move from public assistance to personal and economic self-sufficiency through subsidized housing, on-site nationally accredited child care, intensive case management, education guidance and career development. In a word, iBeforet’s all about potential. Realizing it, promoting it, achieving it."

See Saw did a small part by helping them put together a sign for First Step Park. Thanks to JHL for taking on this project and all of the people who donated their time, materials and expertise.

See Saw...in Green Spaces.

May 4, 2011
In keeping with a desire to have as little environmental impact as possible, See Saw is now using Green Spaces in the RiNo/Ballpark district of Denver as an office space. If you're not familiar with Green Spaces, it's a shared office space that caters to social entrepreneurs. It's housed in a large, mostly unfinished warehouse and will soon be 100% solar powered. It's truly unique and the people I've met so far have been great. As always, call and we'll set up some time so you can stop by! Here's a link to the Green Spaces website.

Totally Board.

March 7, 2011
I've recently landed on the board of directors of the Mile High Business Alliance (MHBA) here in Denver, and had a first big meeting this past Friday and Saturday. If you aren't familiar with the MHBA, they are an organization of passionate people working together to develop a strong and sustainable local economy with programs like Colorado Local First, Local Flavor Guides and Colorado Business Week. In addition, they offer assistance to local small business owners on matters ranging from financing and taxes to marketing and promotion and have recently worked with Representative Su Ryden on introducing House Bill 1142 to require the State to consider local economic impact when considering competing bids.

They're doing a lot, with a little, and I'm excited to help them any way I can. Visit MHBA on the web and become a member, or visit Colorado Local First on Facebook.

New Office Space

October 15, 2010
Ok, See Saw has a new office in the Creative Farm building on 29th and Xavier in the West Highland/Sloan's Lake area of Denver. Different location, same great design. Make a note of it and stop by sometime.—2900 W. 29th Avenue, Denver 80211. We'd love to see you!

September Already!

September 2, 2010
What a crazy year this has been! A lot of great projects and new clients. Pinche Tacos rolled out with amazing success. There has been a lot of buzz about the design See Saw did for the trailer wraps and the overall identity which was a great collaborative effort with the owner, Kevin Morrison.

Five Star Glass has had tremendous success with their new website design, completed in July, including a lot of inquiries through the contact form. The ability to track traffic with the new analytics has been a great help in allowing them to identify traffic and set goals—from Five Star Glass, "This website is not only a great marketing tool, but it also represents the identity of Five Star Glass." That's all we can ask for!

Alot more work on the horizon, and we will try to keep you updated.

Search Engine Ready!

April 20, 2010
I have been working recently on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for the See Saw web site. Up to this point it has largely been an excercise in making it easier to find my site by making it better organized and actually USING the words that I want people to find me with ON MY SITE. It sounds like a no brainer, but it took me a while to figure this out. Also critical to this endeavor was finding ways for external sites to link back to me using relevant keywords. I'll let you know how this pans out as far as business development is concerned.

Colorado First

February 5, 2010

See Saw Creative graphic design DenverSee Saw Creative has joined the Mile High Business Alliance and Colorado First! In times like these it's even more important to be a loyal local consumer and business. Whether it's buying local produce, buying that bike from a local shop or supporting a local service company, there's just not much of a downside to it. The modest price difference, if there is any, is more than made up for in the boost in the local economy, which in turns boosts everyone's pocket book. Not to mention the tremendous ecological benefits from buying locally—less energy used, healthier products, and less pollution just to name a few.

So the next time you need something (say, a brochure, web site or a logo), look no further than your local neighborhood supplier. You'll be happy you did, and so will your community.

Here's See Saw Creative on the Colorado First website. If you're a previous client and you've had a good experience, please rate us! If not, stop by anyway, it's a great site to browse around.

Success...whew!

November 17, 2009

Food, drink and friends...what more could you ask for? The Fall open studios were well attended despite mother nature's snowy interference. People from all over town crowded the hallways and studios taking in the art and atmosphere. New friends were made, old friends maintained and, hopefully, some people left with a new understanding of what graphic design is...and can be! Stay tuned for the next event, or sign up for my newsletter here.
